I am a little bit behind the schedule of the tournament with my posts. The delay is caused by double round played yesterday. But I will catch the schedule quickly ;)
In the round #4 I played against a young guy who likes to open games with the move 1.e4. So we played the Sicilian Defence again. I knew he plays 1.e4 c5 2.f4 and I was prepared for it.
It happens somehow that White was delayed with development and I think that in 11th move I had a better position already.

The second round of super tournament in Wijk aan Zee brought two wins in 7 games. The winners were Levon Aronian and Fabiano Caruana who won their games against Hikaru Nakamura and Sergey Karjakin. The other games finished by draw.
These results means that Levon Aronian is on the 1st place after two rounds. He is the only player who won twice. Carlsen, Caruana and Giri have 1,5 points.
January 16th, 2012 petrs My opponent in the 3rd round of tournament was a young lady from Moldova. During my preparation I found she played on women’s chess olympiad 2010 and it turned my game into something special. It was my first time when I played against a national team member and a participant of chess olympiad!
The game started as the French Defence. I changes the right order of moves and it lead us into exchange of queens in 6th move. Then I had space advantage, but nothing more. I wanted to prevent Black’s move of pawn on e6 and my opponent wanted to place his knight on d5 square.

The traditional tournament in Wijk aan Zee started yesterday. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament has three main tournaments. They are played according to the ’round robin’ system, whereby each competitor plays in turn against every other during the tournament. All three Grandmaster groups have 14 players. I’ll watch the Group A on this site a bit.
January 15th, 2012 petrs My opponent was a clubmate in the 2nd round. He is a good player, rated almost 200 ELO points higher than me. We played one game many years ago – I won the game and I consider it as one of my best games ever. But it was not significate for our game in the second round of this tournament. Not only because we had opposite colors this time ;)
I knew I should except difficult game. We played the Sicilian Defense. I was black and you may remember I try to learn this particular opening – and practising is the best way how to learn something.
January 14th, 2012 petrs As I mentioned in the previous post My Chess Plans for 2012, I wanted to attend Open Praha tournament this year. It is first big tournament of the year in my vicinity and it is possible to play games rated for FIDE ELO there (I still need four games to achieve FIDE rating), so I decided to play the tournament.
Regarding this site I have a plan to post my games and thoughts about the tournament here. I hope it could be interesting for you especially if you plan to attend your first open tournament sometimes in the near future.
