Open Praha 2012 – 7th round

Open PrahaThe tournament is over already, but I still have some games to show you. To be precise I owe you my games from 7th, 8th and 9th rounds. This post is dedicated to the game, which started the last third of the tournament. Yes, we are in the 7th round right now!

I had 3.5 points after 6 rounds and if I wanted to think about good place and good rating after the tournament, I needed to gather 2 points from last three games.

My opponent in the game #7 started the games with the move 1.f4. It is quite solid opening with clear plan for white, but not promising big advantage for him. I underestimated white’s chances of the king’s side, but luckily for me I was able to find a way how to eliminate them and build a solid fortress.

Later in the game I even got an extra pawn and I begun to think about possible win. Unfortunately, I overlooked opponent’s 47th move. The game went to rook ending (after 48.Bc1 Bxc1 49.Rxc1) and I did not believe I could win the position then – I had to keep my eyes on g6 pawn to prevent a breakthrough into my position. So we agreed on a draw.
